What's Coming in the 1.8 Update?

It seems that the 1.7 update just arrived, but the new 1.8 version of Minecraft is already coming along very quickly. The first snapshot has already been released, and you can view Dinnerbone's post about it here. If you don't know what a snapshot is, it's just a demo of whatever Minecraft update is coming up next.

So, of course you're probably wondering what new features will arrive in 1.8. Here's a summary...

For a full, more detailed list of all the new additions, click here.

  • /clone can copy the blocks from one place and put them in another
  • /fill is used to fill a space with any given block
  • Difficulty is world specific
  • @e command targets entities
  • Major updates to the enchanting system and anvil repair system
  • Enchanting uses lapis lazuli
  • Major updates to the villager trading system
  • Granite, andesite, and diorite are now implemented, along with their craftable polished versions
  • Slime blocks act as trampolines and stop fall damage
  • Tweaks to iron golem and zombie pigman drops
  • Tweaks to how skins are designed and used
  • An unknown hidden feature
  • Bug fixes and other tweaks

Keep in mind that I couldn't possibly paraphrase the whole update on this page, so be sure to check out the full report on the Minecraft wiki.
